Building for Tomorrow

The United Nations is convening in Paris to discuss the impact of Climate Change and technologies. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon opened the conference last night with a call to action, insisting that Paris mark a turning point, and stating that the world needs to know that it is headed to a low-emissions, climate-resilient future, and that “there is no going back.”

No doubt technology and the Internet of Things will be essential to realizing the aggressive sustainability and efficiency goals being driven by the United Nations Sustainable Development initiatives. The combination of renewable, recycled, low emission, energy efficient building materials and practices, together with remote monitoring and control of lights, hvac, and other energy consuming appliances via intelligent routers and smart devices will contribute greatly to the overall efficiency of a building.

Green building design has been around for decades and the principles are still the cornerstone of efficient building today, however building for climate resiliency has added another dimension to this practice. The US Green Building Council has published a report titled “Green Building and Climate Resilience” explaining that the green building strategy of mitigating impact to our planet, must be augmented with a plan to create adaptability to ensure resilience to tomorrow’s climate extremes.

Paramont EO is proud to be supporting the needs of our construction community by stocking thermal building materials, smart energy management supplies, offering advanced energy modeling, and by providing information about the latest developments in energy efficient lighting and products.

We hope the conference in Paris will provide the inspiration needed to  drive this process forward and provide clear, actionable goals for building our future.
