Happy Thanksgiving
When you think of your family, you usually think of those people you were raised with, or those you raised, or those who raised you… or those whom you raised who are raising their own and who eventually raise their own. View More…Or maybe there is that friend, who was always closer than family. And your pets, certainly part of the family.
But how about those people whom you spend the better part of your waking hours with? Co-workers … customers … vendors.
I spend more than half my day with people, away from my home, away from television, away from my own refrigerator, away from those things I do purely for pleasure, working with people who come from different homes, but all working for common goals.
After awhile, you get to know these people, these co-workers and customers and vendors, and then you start learning about them, sharing their successes, helping them mourn when things aren’t so good. I remember when we merged firms and one of my customers said he stayed with us because of all the help I gave him when he hit a rough stretch. How often does someone say that about a Credit Manager?
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I find myself thinking that I’m surrounded by family all day … when at work, and then I go home to family. So when I’m eating turkey at home this year, I’m going to also give thanks for my extended family, those co-workers, vendors and customers who add so much to my life.
I’ll also give a thought to the other group I spend a lot of time with … fellow commuters, even those who cut me off at the merge.
